10 Point Plan to Fix our US Democracy ASAP - Before it's Too Late!
Dear Citizens of America - Lend me you ears! Our Democratic nation is withering away on the vine and becoming more and more of an oligarchy. Instead of preaching to the knowledgeable choir about all the problems - I will instead focus on solutions.
1) The congress must not only overturn the horrible Citizen's United and McCutcheon decisions by the worst Supreme Court but also put back or replace the Voter Rights Act that was also dismantled by this same lame court - WE THE PEOPLE OF THE USA HAVE TO GET CORPORATE AND PRIVATE BIG MONEY $$$ SUPER PACS OUT OF OUR ELECTION SYSTEM! Or else it's all over folks! Can you say Plutocracy?
2) Create a nationwide Voting day so no one has an excuse not to vote
3) Have people automatically registered to vote when they apply for State ID/drivers license
4) Make voting mandatory like in other countries like Australia - with a $ penalty for not casting a vote - especially considering our dismal average voter turn outs - 50% for presidential & 35% for midterms and even less for local and state! Pathetic!
5) Change Districting laws so they are fair and square and no more Gerrymandering! (big case up soon before this anti-Democratic hegemonic Supreme Court - will most likely blow it, but we can hope they do the right thing to make some amends for the the past horrible decisions!)
6) Have a Paper Trail! Too many shenanigans in recent elections with faulty or questionable computer systems - there has to be a paper trail for recounts when necessary!
7) Create a Federal Voter Oversight Committee to secure our technical voting apparatus from outside sabotage/interference from autocratic, anti-democratic nations like Russia.
8) Get rid of the antiquated Electoral system and let it be based on more voters participating - just the popular vote - one person - one vote = True Representative Democracy.
9) Allow more parties to participate in all debates! Have federal sponsored bipartisan committee created to run debates and take debates away from private biased corporations who have a 2 party lock down of sell out puppet candidates!
10) No congressperson or high level federal employee may accept a Lobbying position for at least 10 years after they exit the government - current 2 year limit is a joke. Additionally increase all pay for our leaders - across the board - to encourage integrity.
Nothing will change for the better unless we get big money - special interests out of our election system. Integrity is at an all time low in our government - local, state and federal. Most are on the take as in quid-pro-quo politics as usual and it's creating a bi-polar, stratified society where the 1% possess all the wealth and the rest of us are peasants, 2 paychecks from destitution.
If things don't change quickly - I am afraid of what will happen. America has a violent history and now there are 300 million guns floating around and a lot of frustrated, itchy trigger fingers within the struggling masses. Nothing will get better or progress until we fix our Democracy to ensure the best and brightest leaders with high levels of integrity will lead our country to our true and great potential!
Trying to accomplish any important legislation at this point in time is like putting the cart before the horse - not happening! May God Bless America and allow citizens to progress and achieve a good life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness!
